We Love to SHARE

SMAart's first gallery was founded in September 2012 in Lower Nob Hill neighborhood on Sutter street between Larkin and Hyde in the heart of the First Thursday Art Walk, and a second gallery on 24th St in the Mission in early 2020 and a third gallery on Sutter Street between Jones and Leavenworth  in the spring of 2022. The galleries in the front features work by the artist members of SMAart.

While the gallery and studio primarily features ceramic artists, all media are welcome.

Founder Steven M Allen opened SMAart to fulfill a longtime dream of having a place to LEARN-SHARE-CREATE ART. Develop your skills and techniques in classes, experience inspiring art in the gallery, emerging and resident artists create works in an open environment surrounded by other inspiring artists

Both Sutter galleries are
conveniently located in the Lower Nob Hill neighborhood, and is positioned in the heart of the First Thursday Art
Walk with more than 30 galleries and art venues.

Mission SMAart on the vibrant Calle 24, is a few blocks from BART and several major bus routs and is the heart of the 24th Street commercial district.

Each location offers its participating artists access to a burgeoning art scene in both neighborhoods.

I Love to CREATE
Steve has been an artist and creator his whole life and working in clay for over 35-years. After working in the high-tech manufacturing industry for more than two decades, he quit his day job, received a BA and MFA, taught ceramics at Bay Area colleges, universities, community centers and managed the ceramic studio at the Richmond Art Center until he opened SMAart in 2012. He opened his personal studio on Sutter Street in the spring of 2022 and is pleased to share his passion here at SMAart.
